Our Story
Mission: Centered in the school community, Mis Raíces nourishes cultural roots and promotes the healthy growth of immigrant Latino families through education, social capital, access to resources, and community connection.
Vision: Mis Raíces plants seeds that result in families that are rich in culture, friendship, and resources.
History
- Mis Raíces was started in 2007 by a group of staff and families from Patterson Park Public Charter School and the surrounding community.
- Since then, the group has taken on different forms, but has continuously met during the school year at least once a week.
- The program serves approximately 60 people per year.
Purpose
Mis Raíces is an education and support group for Latino families in the Baltimore community that offers social networking and support, builds connections between the school and families, and empowers families to become authentically and comfortably involved in the educational, social and institutional facets of the community. The program addresses these topics by engaging families in fun activities that stimulate learning, build community, and capture teachable moments for both adults and children.

“Each meeting we meet new people who, with time, turn into friendships.”- Mis Raíces Member
